Principal-Mentor Network

Text Overview

Program Overview: A formal, two-year strengths-focused coaching program pairing first- and second-year principals with skilled veteran principal mentors to ensure a successful strategic entry into school leadership.

Eligibility Requirements: All principals new to the position or new to Greenville County Schools.

Purpose: To provide novice principals with logistical support and professional guidance, helping them transition into self-assured leaders who prioritize instructional focus, school climate, and trust.

How Will I Learn? Participants engage in monthly planned one-on-one meetings and four half-day professional learning and consultancy sessions in "level-alike" groups (e.g., elementary or secondary). Mentors utilize a "blended coaching" model to support mentees in 2–3 evidence-based priorities, such as time management, human resource management, and visibility in instruction.

Outcomes: Successful and sustainable entry into the principalship supported by high-leverage leadership behaviors; veteran mentors also benefit by honing their ability to build leadership capacity in others.
