Supplementary Services
Supplementary aids and services are defined as "aids, services and other supports that are provided in regular education classes, other education-related settings, and in extracurricular and nonacademic settings, to enable children with disabilities to be educated with nondisabled children to the maximum extent appropriate." [34 CFR 300.42] The IEP team determines which supplementary aids and services and other supports, if any, are to be provided to the student with a disability or on behalf of the student. Supplementary aids and services must be based on peer-reviewed research to the extent that research is available.
For Supplementary Services with a specific amount and frequency navigate to the Services section of the IEP, and select “Supplementary Aids and Services” from the first dropdown box.
Select the service to be provided from the second dropdown box.
Select the Service Provider Role from the dropdown box.
If prompted, indicate whether the service will be Direct or Indirect by selecting the appropriate radio button.
Enter the Setting, Location, Start Date, End Date, and Amount of Service for all supplementary services added.
The user will then describe any special instructions for supplementary aids and services in the box provided. (Note that this box may also include information related to accommodations and modifications.) This box will include a clear description of any supplementary service(s) which does not have a specific amount of time and frequency.
In addition, supplementary services not listed in the previous drop down menu will also be described in this field. The description MUST include details relating to the conditions under which the supplementary service is required.
