Employee Spotlight Program Honors Outstanding Employees
Ten outstanding GCS employees have been selected for recognition in the Employee Spotlight Program. The Employee Spotlight Program honors staff members who have made significant workplace contributions or accomplishments at Greenville County Schools. Recipients were nominated by fellow GCS employees, who provided information about the employee and his or her work ethic. Each honoree will receive an award and a breakfast celebration for the recipient and his or her entire school, center or department. This program is sponsored by Greenville Federal Credit Union.
Michelle Chapman – Media Specialist – Ellen Woodside Elementary
Michelle’s peers call her an outstanding leader who goes above and beyond at the Riley Center at Ellen Woodside Elementary. She teaches weekly lessons, develops new ideas to engage readers, and she created a library checkout system so 4K students can read with their families. Always supportive and efficient, they say Michelle uplifts both teachers and learners. Her dedication ensures every student has access to books and opportunities that spark a lifelong love of reading.
Kortney Davidson – ISS Coordinator – Lakeview Middle
Kortney leads with compassion and accountability as Lakeview Middle’s ISS Coordinator, according to her coworkers. Through restorative circles and conferences, she helps students reflect, grow, and return to class ready to succeed. Kortney’s peers say her data-driven approach has significantly reduced repeat behavior issues. She is empowering leadership centers on relationship-building, helping students feel seen, supported, and capable of change. She models empathy and integrity daily, fostering a culture of understanding and resilience among students and staff alike.
Jeannie Gully – School Counselor – Heritage Elementary
Employees at Heritage Elementary say Jeannie provides unwavering support, compassion, and guidance. They say she goes far beyond her official duties - mentoring, problem-solving, and advocating for each child. Her presence brings calm and comfort, and her influence lasts well beyond elementary school. Former students often return just to thank her. Jeannie’s caring nature and joyful spirit make her a cornerstone of the Heritage Elementary community.
Jacquetta Holmes – Head Custodian – Blue Ridge High

In just two years, she has become an essential part of Mauldin Elementary, greeting families with warmth and enthusiasm every morning. In the classroom, she takes initiative, supporting teachers and fostering a joyful learning environment. Her empathy and encouragement uplift everyone around her. Sonya’s empowering presence has made a lasting impact on the students, families, and staff she serves.
Melissa Schillinger – Special Education Teacher – Woodmont High
Melissa’s coworkers say her diverse teaching background enriches every corner of Woodmont High. With certifications in Biology and Special Education, she brings a unique perspective that bridges academic rigor and student support. After years as a biology instructor, she returned to special education. Currently serving as an English 2 inclusion teacher, Melissa’s kindness, professionalism, and student-centered approach inspire both her peers and her students every day.
Amy Ustanik – Special Education Teacher – Berea High
Amy’s fellow employees believe the adaptive bike program she developed at Berea High is helping students combine physical activity with academic and emotional growth. Partnering with Momentum Bike Clubs, she coordinates materials and schedules for inclusive recreation. He trains each new bus driver with care and precision, leading by example through his professionalism and kindness.
