On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster, district leadership, school leadership and the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees dedicated Reedy Laurel Elementary.

The school at 61 Isbell Lane in Greenville opened in August 2025. Its name honors the location between the Reedy River and Laurel Creek, complementing its environmental science focus.

“It is a beautiful facility,” said Dr. Burke Royster, Superintendent of Greenville County Schools.  “It’s an innovative facility. But the quality of the facility pales in comparison to the effort it will take to educate the students who pass through here. The people working here will be what makes this place, and the students who attend, successful.”

The two-story, 119,000-square-foot building will eventually house approximately 750 students. It offers a specialized program centered around environmental science, teaching students how to apply their scientific knowledge, become lifelong learners, and contribute to a sustainable world.  Through a standards-based curriculum, students are exploring the world of environmental science in meaningful and hands-on ways.

The new school includes on-site greenhouse, a wet lab for hydroponics, a tech lab, 50 spacious classrooms, and a large outdoor playground.

“At Reedy Laurel Elementary, we see ourselves as gardeners, planting the seeds of learning for a bountiful harvest in our students,” said principal Matt Critell. “Tonight, we dedicate this school as a place where those seeds will thrive.”

“Reedy Laurel stands proudly as part of Greenville County Schools’ outstanding educational system—one that is committed to offering families a wide array of opportunities that meet the diverse needs and interests of our students. This school brings together children from multiple communities around a common purpose: to learn, to grow, and to work toward a better future,” said Nerissa Lewis, Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership.

Reedy Laurel Elementary was initially populated with grades K5 through 2nd and will add one additional grade per academic year. Under this plan, all six grade levels, K5 through 5th, will be fully populated in 2028-29.
