SC Cross Country Coaches of the Year
Eric Cummings, Cross Country Coach at Riverside High and Delmer Howell, Cross Country Coach at Mauldin High have been named South Carolina Cross Country Coaches of the Year. Cummings won the title for AAAA Girls Cross Country, while Howell earned the title for AAAA Boys Cross Country.
Coach Cummings has worked as a social studies teacher at Riverside High for eight years, and was recently named the school’s 2014-15 Teacher of the Year. He has coached Boys Cross Country for eight years and Girls Cross Country for six years. Cummings is the president of the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. Coach Cummings’ Girls Team won the state championship this year by the largest margin of victory among boys or girls in the history of South Carolina Cross Country.
Coach Howell has served Greenville County Schools as an Industrial Education teacher for 31 years. He also teaches Introduction to Engineering Design, a Project Lead the Way course. Under his leadership for the past 30 years, Mauldin High has earned 16 state Cross Country Championships. Howell has been named Cross Country State Coach of the Year 15 times during his career by the SC Cross Country and Track Coaches Association.
