Marie Johnson, a fifth grade teacher at Slater-Marietta Elementary, represented Greenville County Schools at the annual SC International Reading Conference. Johnson was the 2012 Greenville County Distinguished Reading Teacher. She presented an informative display with ideas and classroom strategies demonstrated. Mrs. Johnson, has taught for 12 years at Slater-Marietta Elementary School. She earned a bachelor's degree from North Greenville College and a master's degree from Columbia College.

Others attending the conference from Slater-Marietta included Deborah Seyffert, GCIRA membership chairperson, Donna Tesner, SCIRA photographer, and Linda Bunch, long time GCIRA member. There were numerous workshops and guest speakers who shared their expertise in teaching reading.
