Tom Miller,  principal at Berea Elementary, is taking the Pizza Hut Book It! Principal Challenge and competing with principals nationwide who are reading with their students all day long to promote reading during National Young Readers Week. The goal is to turn students who read because they have to into students who read because they want to.

Using the theme, “Camping Out with a Good Book,” Mr. Miller is reading in the school lobby with students. Students also had a visit from Bryan Collier, Newberry Award-winning illustrator of Dave the Potter, a biography of a slave who lived in South Carolina in the 1800s.

As part of the Pizza Hut challenge, one lucky elementary school principal will win 101 copies of the newest book in the Wimpy Kid series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, for their school library.  Jeff Kinney, author of the Wimpy Kid books, will personally autograph one of the books for the principal who read their heart out.
