Students at Lakeview Middle School recently celebrated Hispanic Heritage Week. Consulates from the Spanish-speaking countries that represent the school provided students with poetry books, brochures, posters and other information about these beautiful countries. The entire school was decorated, including hanging the flags of Spanish-speaking countries and putting up posters around the school. While the majority of Hispanic students at Lakeview come from Mexico, there are also students from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Colombia. Throughout the week students participated in activities such as daily trivia games and a flag-matching contest in the library. The entire student body enjoyed a celebration that included parade of flags representing Spanish-speaking countries, music by the chorus, band, and strings, and traditional dance from the Dominican Republic and Colombia. Hispanics represent one-third of the student body at Lakeview Middle School.
