Middle School & High School Engineering Event at Clemson University
Parents are invited to register their middle or high school student for Clemson University’s Are You Ready? engineering event to be held on Saturday, May 26 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on the college campus. Are You Ready? is coordinated by staff from Clemson University, Greenville County Schools, and Roper Mountain Science Center. The cost is $10 per student and includes lunch and a t-shirt. The deadline to register is Monday, May 7. Space is limited.
Middle and high school students will get a unique opportunity to meet with Industry leaders as well as Clemson engineering students and staff. This special event is held in conjunction with the 2012 collegiate National Steel Bridge Building competition, hosted this year by Clemson University. Students will participate in a number of hands-on activities and gain real-world exposure to various aspects of engineering. Other activities planned for this event include:
- Death Valley and Littlejohn Coliseum Tours - You’ve never seen Death Valley or Littlejohn like this before. Take part in a behind-the-scenes tour and discover what makes these structures truly amazing and just as spectacular as any game ever played there.
- Designing for Disaster - Build a miniature structure and see how it responds to the ground shaking of an earthquake. Experience the force of hurricane winds and see firsthand how anything can become a deadly projectile in a storm.
- Driven to Distraction - Visit the driving simulator laboratory to learn how poor road design, texting and other distractions can increase your chance of a crash.
- NASA Exploration Experience Trailer - Experience NASA’s traveling exhibit that uses 3-D imagery and the latest video technology that will literally make you a part of what NASA is doing now and plans to do in the future.
