School Trustees Elected to State and Regional Posts

Chuck Saylors elected as SCSBA vice president

Chuck SaylorsChuck Saylors, member of the Greenville County Schools Board, was elected vice president of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual Delegate Assembly this past Saturday, December 2.

The association’s annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 81 school boards. In addition to electing association officers, delegates adopted resolutions to guide the association during the 2018 legislative session.

Saylors was elected to the Greenville County Schools Board in 2002.  He has served on numerous committees while on the Greenville Board. He has served on the South Carolina Association of School Administrators board since 2013. Saylors is a lifelong resident of the Greenville Community. His educational background includes Greenville County Schools, Greenville Technical College and the University of South Carolina. 

Saylors is the vice president of the Construction Management Division of MB Kahn Construction Company based out of Columbia, South Carolina. Saylors is a past State President for the South Carolina PTA and served as the first male National PTA President during the 2009-2011 term.  He served as president of the National Federation of Urban Suburban School Districts (NFUSSD) in 2014 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). He serves as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Green Ribbon Schools project of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

He and his wife Teresa have four children and two grandchildren.

Officers elected to lead the association’s board of directors for a one-year term are as follows:

  • President, Wesley Hightower, Aiken County Schools
  • President-elect, Tony Folk, Dorchester School District Four
  • Vice President, Chuck Saylors, Greenville County Schools
  • Treasurer, Cheryl Burgess, Lexington School District Three
  • Secretary, Jamie Devine, Richland One School District

Others elected to serve a four-year term on the 23-member board of directors as regional directors are:

  • Region 1, Gail Hughes, Dorchester School District Two
  • Region 5, Kim Johnson, Clarendon School District Two,
  • Region 9, Daniel Martin, Lexington School District Four
  • Region 13, Michele Branning, Fort Mill Schools,
  • Region 14, Travis Sloan, Spartanburg School District One (completing one year of a four-year term)
  • Region 15, Lisa Wells, Greenville County Schools

Lisa Wells elected as SCSBA Region 15 Director

Lisa WellsLisa Wells, Greenville County Schools board trustee, was elected to her first term as Region 15 Director of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual business meeting Saturday, Dec. 2.  Wells was previously appointed as Region 15 Director in January to fill a vacancy. Region 15 is a stand-alone region representing Greenville County.

The annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 81 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopt resolutions to guide the association during the 2018 legislative session.

Wells has been a member of the Greenville County School Board since 2010 and recently completed two years of service as Chair. She currently serves as Chair of the Board Instructional Policy Committee. She is a Level 4 in Boardsmanship Institute.

Wells is active in local schools, having served PTA and SIC in leadership positions, including President and Chairman, at multiple schools.  Her community involvement includes Boy Scouts, Roper Mountain Science Center, Clemson Women’s Alumni Council, Ten at the Top and numerous organizations associated with her professional career. She is also a Diversity Leadership Institute Fellow of the Riley Institute at Furman University. 

Wells earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and a master’s degree from Clemson in Civil Engineering/Construction Management.  She is a practicing professional engineer with the City of Greenville in its Environmental group.
