Golden Strip Career Center Unveils Innovative Mechatronics Lab
A special ribbon-cutting and unveiling was held at Golden Strip Career Center to celebrate the transformation of the school’s Mechatronics classroom and lab on Thursday, November 20.
The renovation, made possible through a major partnership with 3M and Heart of America, marks a significant milestone in advancing high-quality career and technical education for Greenville County Schools students. Working closely with Golden Strip Career Center, 3M and Heart of America reimagined the Mechatronics instructional space from the ground up, creating a modern, high-tech environment designed for advanced, hands-on learning. 3M, GPS Education Partners, and Greenville Technical College partnered to provide the Festo Mechatronics Trainers, ensuring the space has state-of-the-art equipment. The newly upgraded classroom and lab feature improved lighting, fresh paint, custom graphics, modern furnishings, new equipment, and cutting-edge technology that will prepare students for high-demand careers in skilled trades and advanced manufacturing.
“3M’s leadership and generous support, along with the contributions of these partners, has transformed what was once a mechatronics classroom into an high-tech mechatronics lab designed for advanced, hands-on learning that will prepare students for the industry,” shared GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster. “It’s more than just an upgrade of the physical space; it’s an investment in our students as the future workforce. We appreciate them coming alongside us as educators to truly prepare students for life after graduation.”
Following remarks from representatives from 3M, Heart of America, GCS district leadership, and special guests, attendees participated in a ribbon cutting and toured the redesigned Mechatronics space. The celebration highlights 3M’s continued investment in the Greenville community and its commitment to empowering the next generation of highly skilled professionals.
“Today’s ribbon cutting not only celebrates an incredible new space for our Mechatronics students, but also ushers in a new chapter of opportunity for our program at Golden Strip Career Center,” said Michelle Michael, Director of Golden Strip Career Center. “Thanks to 3M’s generous investment, Heart of America was able to design a learning environment that truly reflects our mission—providing authentic spaces, equipment, and training that prepare students to thrive in college and career. This transformation has energized both students and staff as we work to empower the next generation of skilled trades professionals.”
