Sterling School counselor Dr. Mary Tchouros was named the Palmetto State School Counselor Association’s 2023 South Carolina School Counselor of the Year.

As an ASCA Certified counselor, Dr. Tchouros has been an advocate for her school and the entire counseling profession. For more than 10 years, “Dr. T.” has represented school counseling with expertise and dedication. She is credited with advancing her school’s mission to realize the full potential of every student by meeting the needs of the Whole Child.

Dr. Tchouros serves as an adjunct at Clemson University, where she trains and prepares future school counselors. Her research on school counselor ratio, burnout, job satisfaction and workload, and professional identity development has allowed her to advocate for school counselors far and wide.

"We are excited to celebrate Dr. Mary Tchouros for her outstanding achievement in school counseling," said Elizabeth House, Greenville County Schools Director of School Counseling Services. "Her intentional approaches and tireless advocacy of educational school counseling based supports are making a difference in the lives of students, educators and our Greenville County community. We are proud she is a Greenville County School Counselor and congratulate her on receiving this well deserved award.”
