The East North Street Elementary School coaching team of Courtney Pfeiffer Ellen Edwards and Neal Hopkins was among the 12 teams selected by Girls on the Run International in over 200 councils nationwide. The Girls on the Run Remarkable Volunteer Award is given to volunteers who embody the Girls on the Run core values and inspire the girls in our community to lead joyful, healthy and confident lives.

“We are so thankful for the dedication of the East North Street coaches and for their contributions which have made an inspirational impact on the girls here at East North Street Elementary School. We are proud of this well-deserved recognition on the national scale!” said Mary Ann Cleland Executive Director.

The Girls on the Run program is a 10-week, after-school physical activity-based, positive youth development program for nearly 1,000 third-through eighth-grade girls in the Upstate of South Carolina. Two seasons, with one each in the fall and spring each year, teach life skills through fun interactive lessons and running games to build confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Each program season culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K run.
