Travelers Rest High Student Council Honored
The Travelers Rest High School Student Council was awarded the National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Student Council for the 12th consecutive year. The prestigious recognition is for student councils that consistently provide quality leadership activities and service to their schools and communities. This award distinguishes outstanding student councils by guiding student leaders and their faculty advisers through a process featuring standards-based criteria and demonstration-based outcomes, reflecting more than 80 years of expertise in student council and leadership programming.
The Travelers Rest High Student Council has been involved in many community outreach projects. Four projects are detailed below.
- Dog Training: Student Council organizes an orientation for rising freshmen which includes a tour of the school, a "Getting to Know You" lunch, and a t-shirt for each attendee.
- Homecoming: Student Council plans week-long school spirit events for the Homecoming game, including a Homecoming Parade that features a float-building contest for each grade level and a parade through the town.
- Spirit Week: Student Council sponsored numerous events to raise money for Let There Be Mom in memory of Cassandra Brailsford.
- District Rally: For the first time, Travelers Rest hosted the South Carolina Association of Student Council's District 5 Rally, and was recognized for setting a new state record in fundraising for the SCASC.
