ACCESS Testing for Identified English Language Learners
Students identified as English Language Learners (ELL) must take ACCESS for ELLs 2.0, an English language proficiency assessment for Grades K–12. The test is administered every year to help school districts monitor the English language development of students identified as English language learners. Greenville County Schools will administer the test between February 4 and March 22, 2109.
What is the purpose of the test?
ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 measures students’ abilities to understand and produce English used within school settings. The four sections of the test are Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.
Why does my child have to take the test?
Your child is identified as an English language learner. Your child will take the test every year until his/her scores meet the criteria to exit the language support program. Program exit criteria in South Carolina is set at a 4.4 overall composite score and no domain lower than a 4.0.
When will my child take the test?
Every state sets a time frame for schools to administer ACCESS for ELLs 2.0. Schools schedule when students will take the four sections of the assessment during the testing window. The testing window runs from February 4 - March 22, 2019.
When can I expect scores to be reported?
Scores will not return to our school district until mid-June. Individual score reports will be sent out in August of the 2019-2020 school year.

Testing Tips
Parents can be a great help to their child by following these suggestions.
Students should:
- Rest on the nights before these tests.
- Eat a nourishing breakfast on the morning of each test.
- Be in school and on time, except in cases of illness.
- Listen attentively to the teacher’s directions so he/she will know exactly what to do.
- Read each test question and each response carefully before marking an answer choice.
- Stay calm, if there are questions that seem difficult.
- Mark his/her best answer.
- Refrain from bringing any electronic device that can be used for communicating, timing, or imaging into the testing location.
Parents should:
- Meet with your child’s teachers as often as necessary to discuss his/her progress.
- Check or review your child’s homework, projects, or other school work.
- Ask teachers to suggest activities for you and your child to do at home to help prepare for tests and to improve your child’s understanding of schoolwork.
- Talk with your child about school.
- Provide positive feedback by praising your child for what he/she does well.

ACCESS, la examinación para estudiantes identificados como aprendices del Inglés
¿Qué es ACCESS?
ACCESS es una prueba de desempeño lingüístico en inglés para niños desde el grado kínder hasta 12° grado. La prueba se administra todos los años con el objetivo de ayudar a los distritos escolares a monitorear el desarrollo del lenguaje de alumnos identificados como aprendices del inglés.
¿Cuál es el propósito de la prueba?
La prueba ACCESS mide las capacidades de los alumnos para comprender y producir el Inglés usado dentro de entornos escolares. Las cuatro secciones de la prueba son Escuchar, Leer, Hablar y Escribir.
¿Por qué tiene que tomar la prueba mi hijo/a?
Su hijo/a fue identificado/a como aprendiz del inglés. Su hijo/a tomará la prueba todos los años hasta que su puntuación alcance los criterios necesarios para salir del programa de apoyo lingüístico. Los criterios de salida del programa en Carolina del Sur se establecen en un puntaje compuesto general de 4.4 y ningún dominio inferior a 4.0.
¿Cuándo tomará la prueba mi hijo/a?
Cada estado establece un marco de tiempo para que las escuelas administren la prueba ACCESS. Las escuelas programan cuándo los alumnos tomarán las cuatro secciones de la prueba durante el marco de tiempo evaluativo. Estas examinaciones seran desde el 4 de Febrero de 2019 hasta el 22 de Marzo de 2019.
¿Cuándo puedo esperar que las puntuaciones sean reportadas?
Los puntajes no regresarán a nuestro distrito escolar hasta mediados de Junio. Los informes de calificaciones individuales se enviarán en Agosto del año escolar 2019-2020.

Consejos para tomar la prueba:
Los padres pueden ayudar a los estudiantes siguiendo estas sugerencias.
Los estudiantes deben:
- Descansar las noches antes de estas pruebas.
- Comer un desayuno nutritivo en la mañana de cada prueba.
- Asistir a la escuela y estar a tiempo, excepto en casos de enfermedad.
- Escuchar atentamente las instrucciones del maestro para que él / ella sepa exactamente qué hacer.
- Leer cada pregunta del examen y cada respuesta cuidadosamente antes de marcar una opción de respuesta.
- Mantener la calma, si hay preguntas que parecen difíciles.
- Marcar su mejor respuesta.
- Abstenerse de llevar cualquier dispositivo electrónico que pueda usarse para la comunicación, la sincronización o la obtención de imágenes en el lugar de la prueba.
Los Padres deberían:
- Reúnirse con los maestros de su hijo/a tan a menudo como sea necesario para hablar sobre su progreso.
- Revisar las tareas, proyectos u otro trabajo escolar de su hijo.
- Pedir a los maestros que sugieran actividades para realizar en casa y asi ayudar a los estudiantes a prepararse para los exámenes y mejorar la comprensión del trabajo escolar.
- Hablar con su hijo sobre la escuela.
- Proporcionar comentarios positivos a su hijo/a por lo que hace bien
