Three Greenville County Schools have been named finalists for a Palmetto’s Finest.  Brushy Creek Elementary, J.L. Mann High and Westcliffe Elementary are among twelve South Carolina schools in the running for the statewide award. 

“We are truly honored to be named a Palmetto’s Finest finalist.  Westcliffe has been a successful student centered school for many years. Our motto is “ Learning  Today, Leading Tomorrow” and everyone in the school strives to ensure our children are career and college ready, “ said Principal Carolyn Morgan.

Principal Charlie Mayfield said, “J. L. Mann High School is honored to be recognized as a Finalist for the South Carolina Palmetto’s Finest Award. We hope this is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, staff, parents and community to live out our motto of “Making a Difference!”

After submitting an application, schools receive extensive evaluations by fellow educators and previous Palmetto’s Finest winners. The application process includes elements on student achievement, instructional programs, professional learning communities, and school culture.  The 12 finalists are now undergoing a second onsite evaluation.

“Brushy Creek Elementary School is excited to be named a Finalist for the 2018 Palmetto’s Finest Award.  We feel passionately that our total school program is a reflection of our motto “Building a Community of Excellence One Student at a Time.”  Our school exemplifies quality education in South Carolina because our school culture ensures that students feel safe as they learn and experience success.. Brushy Creek has a supportive community, dedicated parental involvement, and intentional planning for the implementation of a quality educational program,” said Principal Charles Davis.  

The finalist schools will gather in their local communities on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 1:45 p.m. to learn which have won the top honors.  The announcement will be streamed live to each of the finalist schools.

The SC Association of School Administrators (SCASA) presents the awards each year to schools which offer the best in innovative, effective educational programs. The Palmetto’s Finest Award is celebrating its 40th year and is one of the most coveted and respected awards among educators.

“We are excited to recognize some of the outstanding and innovative schools in South Carolina.  They represent the many excellent school communities serving South Carolina’s families,” said Beth Phibbs, SCASA Executive Director.
