GCS Player of the Week - February 3, 2017
For the first time, a Greenville County Schools runner has been named the Gatorade South Carolina Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year! John Ward, Wade Hampton High, was recently selected for this honor, which recognizes his outstanding athletic and academic achievements.
John is the 2016-17 AAAAA State Champion in Cross Country as well as Greenville County and Upper State Champion. In addition, John holds the Greenville County record in the 800 meters, breaking the longest standing record in the county meet last spring.
As part of his award, John received a $1,000 grant to donate to the charity of his choice. He selected the Kroc Center, to support its initiative to grow youth sports by offering various camps and other activities.
