GCS Player of the Week - October 7, 2016

This weeks GCS “Players of the Week” features a RB who gained over 250 yards to lead his team to a big region victory and a swimmer who placed 1st or 2nd in 4 events to earn All-Region status.

Travis Hagood, Berea Football – Behind the running of Travis Hagood, the Berea Bulldogs got off to a 1-0 start in region play with a big victory over rival Southside.  Hagood rushed for 263 yards and scored two touchdowns, and he credits the blocking in front of him for his big night.

Samantha Mosher, JL Mann Swim – Samantha earned All-Region honors in Region I-AAAAA by winning the 100 Free and finishing 2nd in the 50 Free sprints.  She also anchored the 200 and 440 Freestyle relay teams that both finished top 2 at the region meet.

Leslie Matteo, Berea Tennis – Won her singles match vs Emerald

Austin Lane, Blue Ridge Cross Country – 1st place at Schlotsky’s Invitational

TJ Gist, Eastside Football – 8 receptions for 120 yards last week

Abby Shaw, Eastside Tennis – After a grueling 2.5 hour match on Tuesday, came back with a big singles win vs Union on Wednesday

Brodie Wright, Greer Football – 8 tackles, 3 assists and 2 tackles for loss last week

Ethan Nichols, Hillcrest Football – 38 carries for 208 yards and 2 TDs last week

Spencer Fowler, Hillcrest Swim – Leading point scorer for team at region meet

Ian Faulconer, JL Mann Swim – Won 200 Free, named All-Region and qualified for state as one of top scorers at region meet

Holden Groce, Mauldin Football – Returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns in the 1st quarter vs Riverside

Tamir Martin, Riverside Football – 2 INT’s, one returned for a touchdown, 4 tackles and a kick-off return for a TD vs Mauldin

Lexy Tupman, Riverside Volleyball – Senior libero lead team in serve/receive passing % and digs in all 6 matches last week.

Anthony Smith, Southside Football – Recognized for senior leadership

Jenny Par, Southside Tennis – Recognized for hard work and leadership

Derrick Fields, Travelers Rest Football – 4 receptions for 128 yards and 1 TD

Hannah Davis, Travelers Rest Swim – Qualified for state in 500 Free and 100 Butterfly.  Improved her 500 time by 9 seconds at region meet

Luke Griner, Wade Hampton Swim – Earned All-Region by qualifying for state in 100 Fly, 100 Back and 500 Free

Audra McSharry, Wade Hampton Swim – Won 500 Free, seeded 2nd at state in 500, and qualified for state in 200 Free and 100 Fly

Colt Griffith, Woodmont Cross Country – Committed to University of Tennessee for Cross Country and Track & Field

Campbell McCarthy, Woodmont Swim – Qualified for state in 200 IM and 100 Back
