Greer High Virtual Business Wins State Title
Students Heading to NYC to Compete for National Championship
Inside the world headquarters of the Golden Spoon Ice Cream Corporation, the CEO and her team are making final preparations for a business trip to New York.
They are a little young to be high powered corporate executives but the Greer High School Virtual Enterprise students really know how to get down to business.
The business class was just awarded first place in the South Carolina state business plan competition. Students will compete for a national title April 16-20 in New York City.
During the national competition they will set up a trade show booth and present their 30 page business plan, their website, their catalogs, their spreadsheets, their cost analysis and more.
Mackenzie Cain is the student CEO. She says their website and presentations are so thorough that some people think their products are real.
“People are like how can I go to your website and buy this ice cream? I said this is a virtual enterprise company. It leads to a lot of humor with the customers,” Cain said.
At the beginning of the semester students interview for their positions within the company and are “hired” based on their strengths. Jobs include Chief Operations Officer, Chief Financial Advisor, VP of Marketing and VP of Technology.
Students are raising money for their New York trip and are just over halfway to their goal.
