Lifelong Learning Program Earns Statewide Recognition
Greenville County Schools’ Lifelong Learning program has once again been recognized as one of South Carolina’s top Adult Education providers, earning multiple honors from the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Career Readiness and Office of Adult Education.
For the second consecutive year, GCS Lifelong Learning met all 12 national benchmarks for measurable skill gains among both Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) students, an achievement that reflects the program’s sustained leadership in the state.
2025 SC Adult Education “Celebrating Our Success” Awards for Lifelong Learning
- Young Adult Program Award – Recognized among the top 15 programs statewide for measurable skill gains with a 98.9% passage rate for high school diplomas.
- Enrollment Growth Award – Recognized as the largest program in the state to achieve an enrollment increase of 5% or more.
- Adult High School Diploma Completer Award – Ranked among the top three programs statewide for the number of diplomas awarded. Lifelong Learning students earned 105 diplomas, including 31 counted in Greenville County Schools’ record 90.6% graduation rate.
- Integrated Education and Training (IET) Award – Honored for the ESL Entrepreneurship IET program, a nationally recognized model in which 30 students earned entrepreneurship certifications while advancing their English proficiency.
- Hall of Fame Inductees
- Emily Mejia – Teachers Hall of Fame, recognized for 10 years of distinguished leadership in Adult Education.
- Carolyn Foster – Administration Hall of Fame, recognized for 20 years of dedicated service in Adult Education.
The Lifelong Learning program provides pathways for adults to achieve educational and career goals through GED and diploma attainment, English language instruction, workforce training, and industry certifications.
