This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we’re celebrating our more than 6,000 teachers who give countless hours of time, energy, and love to ensuring students’ success in school and beyond. As you can imagine, since GCS closed school facilities on March 16, teaching and learning from home has presented challenges for teachers and students – and many parents, too! We’ve seen many examples across Greenville County where teachers are offering innovative ways to interact with students in virtual classrooms.

Shasta Looper, Blythe Academy fourth grade teacher, said personal relationships are essential to learning. “Right now, we’re teaching to a computer screen, so when someone says you did a real good job or we enjoyed that lesson, it really makes you feel like you matter in their virtual world now.”
