This week the GCS “Player of the Week” would like to recognize our 2016 State Champions in track and field!

Kennedy Dennis, Berea – Kennedy is our featured female “Player of the Week” after dominating the AAA girls sprints, claiming victory in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters.

Cate Ambrose, Riverside -  In class AAAA distance events, Cate won 1st place in the 3200 meters, 1600 meters and was part of the 4 x 800 relay team that put up the second fastest time in state history!  Cate ran the anchor leg, teaming with Rachel Lentz, Abigail Smith and Mikie Harris.

Kelsey Heyward, JL Mann – Kelsey won the 100 hurdles in Class AAAA.

Hilary Harris, JL Mann – Hilary won the AAAA discus throw.

Troy Pride, Jr., Greer – Troy is our featured male “Player of the Week.”  Like Kennedy, Troy dominated the AAA sprints, winning gold in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters.  Troy also teamed with Quavian White, Dorian Lindsey and Adrian McGee to win the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Quentin Martin, Hillcrest – Quentin won two 1st places as well, winning the AAAA long jump and anchoring the 4 x 100 relay team that won the AAAA state title.  Quentin teamed with Brian Spurgeon, Brandon Peppers and Kelvin Pacheco.

Frankie Thomas, Mauldin – Frankie set a meet record at the County Championship’s with a jump of 6 feet 7 inches.  He bettered that at state, jumping a personal record 6 feet 10 inches, tying a 32-year old school record!

John Ward, Wade Hampton – John broke the oldest record at the County Championship, the 800 meters.  At state, John won the AAAA 800 and placed 2nd in the AAAA 1600 meters.

Demarcus Leamon, Berea Track and Field – Qualified and competed in state high jump

Ethan Few, Blue Ridge Baseball – Recognized for outstanding leadership during the season

Ansley Gilreath, Blue Ridge Softball – Recognized for outstanding leadership during the season

Sam Blumer, Eastside Track and Field – Placed 2nd in AAA pole vault at state

Rebecca Faircloth, Olivia Henn, Lindsay Hannah, Abby Jackson, Eastside Track and Field – Placed 3rd in AAA 4 x 800 Relay at state

Zariere Dumas, Hillcrest Track and Field – Competed in four events at state, placing 4th in 400 and 8th in 200

Jack Zemo, JL Mann Track and Field – Placed 4th in 1600 at state

Nia Wright, Mauldin Track and Field – Placed 3rd in triple jump and 7th in long jump at state

Ben Cignarale, Riverside Track and Field – Placed 3rd in 3200 at state

Jeremiah Talbert, Keenan Stephens, Southside Track and Field – Part of 4x100 team that finished 5th and 4x400 team that placed 3rd at state.  Keenan also placed 3rd in 400 hurdles and Jeremiah placed 6th in the 400 and 200.

Mychal Bowser, Travelers Rest Track and Field – Named all-state in track

Kelsey White-Kennedy, Travelers Rest Track and Field – Named all-state in track

Marley White, Wade Hampton Track and Field – Placed 3rd in 1600 at state, setting new PR

Colt Griffith, Woodmont Track and Field – Placed 3rd at state in 1600

Michelle Fotheringham, Woodmont Soccer – Recognized as major contributor in helping Wildcats reach the playoffs
