Greenville County Schools Students Score Higher Than State Average on ACT, ACT Aspire and SC PASS
ACT (American College Test)
Greenville County high school juniors out-performed students across the state in 2015 in all subjects on the ACT college readiness exam.
Spring 2015 was the first time all 11th graders in South Carolina were administered the ACT regardless of whether they had taken appropriate coursework to prepare for college.
ACT is a college-readiness assessment that consists of four main tests – English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. These four tests contain multiple choice questions and results are reported based on scores ranging from 1 to 36.

Greenville County ranks 11th out of 86 school districts for the average composite scale score. Six high schools rank in the top 25% of high schools in the state for highest average composite scale score: Riverside HS, JL Mann HS, Mauldin HS, Eastside HS, Wade Hampton HS, and Greenville HS.
ACT Aspire, SC PASS (Grades 3-8)
Greenville County third through eighth graders scored significantly higher than the state average on the new ACT Aspire test and on SC PASS (South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards).
On ACT Aspire, the percentage of GCS students scoring “Ready” and “Exceeding” was higher than the percentage of South Carolina students” in all areas, at all grade levels.

SC PASS tests students in the fourth through eighth grades on Science and Social Studies. ACT Aspire is for students in grades three through eight and tests students in English, Reading, Writing and Math.
Spring of 2015 was the first time all students in these grades were administered ACT Aspire and SC PASS. The new assessments reflect more rigorous academic standards and expectations. According to the State Department of Education the results should be viewed as one part of a student’s academic portrait of college and career readiness.
The percentage of Greenville County students scoring “Met” or “Exemplary” on SC PASS was significantly higher than the state average.
