Luke Donald DeMott, a Mauldin High School senior, has been selected First Alternate for the 2014-15 United States Senate Youth Scholarship Program.Luke Donald DeMott, a Mauldin High School senior, has been selected First Alternate for the 2014-15 United States Senate Youth Scholarship Program by the South Carolina Department of Education. The program will be held March 7-14 in Washington, D.C. to increase young Americans' understanding of the interrelationships of the three branches of government, the responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials, and the vital importance of democratic decision-making for Americans and people around the world.

Luke serves as secretary of Mauldin High's National Honor Society. Upon graduation, Luke will pursue an undergraduate degree in History and eventually work in the field of higher education. He enjoys watching college sports, tutoring underprivileged elementary school students, and reading about history and politics.

Luke is the son of Tina Matrale and Donald DeMott.
