GCS Students Continue to Outscore State on HSAP
Greenville County Schools students continue to outscore the State on the High School Assessment Program (HSAP), with 81 percent of students passing both ELA and Math on the first attempt versus 77.4 percent of students passing statewide.
District officials note even though GCS students’ scores exceed the State, some students may not have taken the test very seriously as legislation was moving through the General Assembly at the time of spring testing to eliminate the HSAP as a requirement for graduation. Legislation eliminated the requirement in April.
HSAP is administered for the first time in a student’s second year of high school. There are four grading levels (1, 2, 3, and 4) and Level 2 is considered passing. First attempt HSAP scores are used in ESEA Federal Accountability and Report Card calculations.
