Greenville County Schools Announces 2014-15 School Calendar
The 2014-15 calendar for Greenville County Schools has been released, and includes the first day for students on Tuesday, August 19, and the last day on Thursday, June 4, 2015.
State law requires that school districts begin school no earlier than the third Monday in August, and the calendar must include 180 days for students and 190 days for teachers.
2014-15 holidays are: Labor Day, September 1; Election Day, November 4; Thanksgiving Break, November 26-28; Winter Break, December 22 - January 2; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 19; Presidents’ Day, February 16; Spring Break, March 30 – April 3, and Memorial Day, May 25. The last three days of school, June 2-4, are half-days for students. Students will not attend school on Professional Development Workdays for teachers during the school year, which are October 16-17 and January 16.
Three school makeup days, in order of use, are: Makeup Day #1, March 9; Makeup Day #2, June 5; and Makeup Day #3, April 6. These days become student attendance days if days are missed earlier in the school year. Makeup days, not used, become school holidays.
The superintendent determines the school calendar after receiving recommendations from a calendar committee comprised of parents, teachers, principals, and district staff. The committee develops a recommended calendar based on input from parent groups, school faculties, and other employee groups.
