Teachers Earn Recognition
Tracy Carney, a sixth and seventh grade science teacher at Sterling School, has been named the Greenville County Schools Middle School Science Teacher of the Year by the Greenville County Science Teachers Association. Ms. Carney has taught middle and high school students since 1993. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 2003 and earned National Board Certification in 2005.
Meri Heather Acton, a Hillcrest Middle School eighth grade math teacher, was selected the Papa John's Middle School Teacher of the Year for Greenville County. Ms. Acton was nominated by Destiny Shobe of Hillcrest High School. Students were asked to submit an essay about their favorite teacher, coach or school administrator and how they have had a positive influence in their life. Each first place winner receives a Papa John's pizza party for up to 30 people. The selected teachers each received one year's worth of Papa John's Pizza and a special plaque. The winning student also won one year's worth of Papa John's Pizza.
