Oakview Elementary School has been named a Finalist in the 2013 South Carolina School of Character program.  Each year, Palmetto Character Council selects schools and districts that demonstrate, through a rigorous evaluation process, that their focus on character development has had a true positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate.

Schools of Character are expected to serve as models for other schools by helping them to achieve the same results.

Oakview Elementary School believes that teaching character is central to the performance of all students, both in academics and in life.  The “Life is a Highway” program teaches character traits while reinforcing behaviors which promote success in school and beyond.  The school refers to these character traits as “Life Signs for Success.”

Oakview Elementary this year adopted “Life Signs,” which include Effort, Courage, Caring, Initiative, Trustworthiness, Integrity and Personal Best. These “Life Signs” are taught to all students, displayed throughout the school, and reinforced weekly on the morning news program with quotes and information about each word.  Each month, the school highlights one “Life Sign” and recognizes students who have shown that character trait.

As a proud Finalist of the School of Character award. Oakview Elementary School recognizes the importance of strong character as it produces success in life for our students.
