Greenville County Schools welcomed back more than 70,000 students and about 4,500 teachers on the first day of school. Students were excited to see old friends, meet new classmates, and learn more about their teacher’s expectations for the new school year.

Superintendent W. Burke Royster and other district staff visited schools across the county to support principals on the opening day.  The district’s newest school, Monarch Elementary, welcomed about 700 students at the new facility on Five Forks Road in Simpsonville.

From first-year kindergartners to graduating seniors, students were eager to get back to school for a fresh start on a new school year.
