GREAT NEWS! Four Years in a Row - Greenville County Schools ACT Score Exceeds State, National Averages
For the fourth year in a row, Greenville County Schools’ seniors outperformed the state and national averages on the American College Test (ACT), one of two major college entrance tests.
The GCS Class of 2012 posted an average score of 21.5 out of a possible 36 points, an increase of two-tenths of a point over the 2011 average score of 21.3. By comparison, the state average of 20.2 for all students increased one-tenth of a point from last year’s average of 20.1, while the national average of 21.1 remained constant.
"Our students’ outstanding performance on the ACT is a clear indicator that Greenville County students compete well with students across the nation," said Superintendent W. Burke Royster. "The test provides an excellent assessment of how our students compare academically with their national peers. I applaud our students, teachers and other school staff for their efforts to help ensure that our students are well prepared for college."
The ACT is a test of curriculum-based and classroom-based achievement, meaning the ACT tests what students have learned.
