Artwork Photography by Caroline Glazebrook

The second AID Upstate/Greenville County High School Art Show, recently held at People's National Bank, garnered $2,042 in sales for 27 pieces of original artwork by Greenville County students. The artists received 70 percent of the asking price of their artworks and their school programs received 30 percent of the profit for their art programs.

"This partnership has been a win-win event for our visual art students, our high school art programs and AID Upstate, which serves clients throughout the Upstate area. The interest and support by their Board Members and organization, under the leadership of Bill Stephenson, has been phenomenal. These members are avid art supporters and interested in fostering artistic excellence and encouragement for our young artists," said Diane Lee, Fine Arts Coordinator for Greenville County Schools. "We hope to continue this annual event, enriching the arts in our community and our schools," she continued.

Kimberly Spears, Executive Director of the Anderson County Arts Council, was the juror for the exhibition. Her choice of "Best in Show" was Fine Arts Center student Clairie Randall's oil pastel, "Surfside." Ms. Spears said this piece captured her attention and it kept drawing her back to enjoy the subject matter, composition and adept handling of the media. "I was impressed by several works that exhibited originality and creativity. It was a difficult process to choose, because the work exhibited is first quality and your peers are very gifted. The overall exhibit reflects well of the programs and teachers involved too. It is a great example of student work that would rival some of the professional shows in the area," she said.
