The past three Wade Hampton High School valedictorians were all AP Capstone diploma students. 
The AP Capstone Diploma is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing.

The 2025 graduates of the WHHS Quiz Bowl Team set school history by being three-time defending GCS champions, three-time defending SC State Champions, and finishing third in the United States at the 2025 National Championship. 

Spring of 2025, 11 students completed the AP Spanish Language and Culture course as Wade Hampton. On the national exam, six of those students scored 5 out of 5, four scored 4 out of 5, and one scored a 3 out of 5, meaning that the class had a 100% pass rate (compared to an 85% national average). Those students are shining examples of how our students are Leading Like Generals!

The Mighty Generals by Mike Chibbaro(2019) tells the true story of how five Black students integrated the basketball team at the once-segregated Wade Hampton High School in 1970, using their shared pursuit of victory to foster school unity and break down racial barriers in a divided Southern community.

Since becoming Future Teacher Academy, Wade Hampton High has graduated 10 future teachers.

Over the last 13 years all music programs have built their programs from .5 teaching positions to full-time positions in Chorus, Band, and Orchestra

Lynda Leventis-Wells, a GCS Board Member, educator, State and Local Law Enforcement is from Wade Hampton's Class of 1971
