GCS Students Outpace State Average on SC PASS
Greenville County Schools fourth through eighth graders scored significantly higher than the state average on SC PASS (South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards). SC PASS tests students in science and social studies. The Science achievement standards were reset in 2016-17. Science scores are now reported using the same four achievement categories as SC READY – Does Not Meet Expectations, Approaches Expectations, Meets Expectations, and Exceeds Expectations. The test results for SC PASS Social Studies continue to be reported using three categories - Not Met, Met, and Exemplary.
On SC PASS Science, the percentage of GCS students scoring Meets Expectations and Exceeds Expectations was higher than the percentage of SC students scoring Meets Expectations and Exceeds Expectations at all grade levels.
On SC PASS Social Studies, the percentage of GCS students scoring Met and Exemplary was higher than the percentage of SC students scoring Met and Exemplary at all grade levels.
Science
- 6th grade had the highest percentage of students scoring Meets and Exceeds Expectations – 53.4 %.
- 7th grade had the lowest percentage of students scoring Meets and Exceeds Expectations – 49.8%.
Social Studies
- 4th grade had the highest percentage of students scoring Met and Exemplary – 85.8 %.
- 7th grade had the lowest percentage of students scoring Met and Exemplary – 67.4%.
