female studentRiverside Middle School has been named a School of Excellence by the National PTA. Riverside Middle is the only school in South Carolina to receive the honor. Many outstanding programs are in place to provide support and services to Riverside Middle families, including:

3 female studentsTranslation Services -  A large number of RMS parents work for international businesses such as Michelin, GE and BMW and come to the United States with limited English proficiency. The PTSA established a multi-cultural committee to support these families by providing translation services for back-to-school and other important documents. They include the translations on their website and shared links with families.

Bi-Weekly Blasts to Parents -  The PTSA sends a bi-weekly blast to families to keep them informed. They added a suggestion page to the website and a Facebook page to allow for two-way communication with parents.

two elementary studentsBackpack Blessings Program -  The guidance department implemented a Backpack Blessings program, supported by PTSA, to provide food for students on the weekends.

Health and Wellness Programs - The school won a LiveWell Greenville Healthy School of Excellence award for its lunchroom offerings, extensive after-school intramural sports offerings, and a running club for students. The RMS iMove 5K event has provides another opportunity to support student health and wellness. Proceeds from the 5K are donated to Safe Harbor, a program that offers assistance to women and children of family violence. The 2014-15 5K race included a health fair including free blood pressure screenings.

Business Partnerships - Business partnerships continue to increase, allowing students to make connections with representatives in the business world.
