During Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the administration recommended that the School Board revise the District grading scale for grades 2 through 8 to a 10-point system so that all GCS students operate under a consistent grading scale. The recommendation was approved by the Committee of the Whole and will require a final vote by the full Board at the May 24 School Board meeting.

The recommendation comes after the State Board of Education, at the recommendation of the South Carolina Department of Education, voted to move to a 10-point grading scale for all Carnegie-unit bearing classes. The recommended change in grading policy will go into effect next school year.

The recommendation notes that since the State has not fully rolled out the scale for Carnegie credits, further policy developments to reflect additional state and local grading policy changes may be added prior to the 2016-2017 school year.
