Olivia Hopkins, a Fine Arts Center and Mauldin High School student, won a gold medal in the dance category at the Afro American Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics in July. Olivia Hopkins, a Fine Arts Center and Mauldin High School student, won a gold medal in the dance category at the Afro American Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics in July.

Olivia performed at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as part of the 35th annual ACT-SO competition. Olivia was one of over 650 NAACP Youth Olympians from across the nation and 3 foreign countries.

Olivia will be honored by the Upstate Chapter of the NAACP at the Fine Arts Center on Monday, October 12 at 6:30pm.

Olivia said, "It was such a rewarding experience and I still can't believe I won!"

ACT-SO is a yearlong youth achievement program sponsored by the NAACP designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among high school students of African descent.
