During a recent Bus Driver Job Fair, current bus drivers and aides were asked to hand out a “Gift Card Incentive” recruitment flyer to individuals interested in becoming a bus driver. If the applicant came to the job fair, the current Transportation employee’s name was put in a drawing for a $100 Visa gift card.

Robyn Turk, a bus driver from Donaldson Bus Center, was the lucky winner. She was presented the gift card by Jena Young, Donaldson Bus Center Supervisor. Robyn referred her long-time neighbor to come out the job fair and apply for a job.

Robyn has worked with Greenville County Schools for nine years, beginning as a special needs teacher’s aide. The initial allure was the opportunity to be home when her children were out for the summer and school breaks. Now she uses her time between her morning and afternoon bus driving route to take care of her father who has health challenges. Robyn loves driving because she loves the children, being around people, and the hours. She especially loves how the drivers and staff at Donaldson seem like a family. Robyn brags on the insurance benefits of working with the school district. Those were especially beneficial to her when she was a single mom. She believes the retention compensation and safety incentives are added perks to being a bus driver.

Greenville County Schools is in need of 30 bus drivers. Pay starts at $12.80 an hour with no bus driving experience required. Full-time drivers are guaranteed 30 hours a week and receive benefits. On-Call Bus Drivers are needed as well. Training is provided. Apply on-line by clicking on the employment tab, attending an upcoming job fair, or calling (864) 355-1826. Job fair dates, times, and locations are updated regularly.
