Sandra Welch Recognized for Lifetime Achievement in Public Education
Sandra Welch, PTA/Staff Support Specialist for Greenville County Schools, has been named the recipient of the prestigious South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the lifetime achievement of veteran administrators. She has served Greenville County Schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator.
Mrs. Welch began her career as a teacher at Brushy Creek Elementary and Pelham Road Elementary, serving as a team leader and supervising student teachers. She later served as principal at Augusta Circle Elementary and Summit Drive Elementary Schools. Among the awards presented during her tenure were Palmetto’s Finest, National Blue Ribbon School, and Red Carpet School. Mrs. Welch also served as Director of Professional Growth and Leadership and Assistant Superintendent for Schools.
Since 2009, Mrs. Welch has served the GCS Communications Department as PTA/Staff Support Specialist. She is the communication link between the district and 83 local PTA units, the School Improvement Council contact for 94 SICs, district volunteer liaison, and coordinator of the annual Retirement Dinner and Teacher and Employees of the Year Programs, as well as other special events.
Mrs. Welch has received numerous awards including South Carolina PTA Outstanding Support Staff of the Year and National Distinguished Principal from South Carolina.
She has served as president and in various leadership capacities for SCASA, as a site visitor for the U. S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools Recognition Program, and also as a board member for the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
