Berea High JROTC Wins Sword of Excellence
Retired Maj Gen Arthur Rooney, SC AFA President, Retired Lieutenant General David Deptula, guest speaker, and active duty Major General Jake Polumbo, the 9th Air Force Commander at Shaw AFB, SC, with the Berea High AFJROTC.
Berea High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) unit was selected as the South Carolina Air Force Association (AFA) Sword of Excellence Winner for 2013-2014. The award designates Berea High AFJROTC as The Outstanding AFJROTC unit (#1 of 42 eligible) in the state for South Carolina for 2013-2014. Mike Noel, Berea High Principal, Colonel Dowis, Berea Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, and 10 cadets received the award on the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Charleston, SC. Berea High previously won the elite award in 2011-2012.
