The School Board gave tentative approval during today’s Committee of the Whole meeting to forgive up to five missed days beyond the three scheduled makeup days, contingent upon the Governor’s approval of a Joint Resolution by the House and Senate that would authorize school boards to forgive up to five days beyond three required makeup days. The School Board will consider final approval during its Tuesday, March 25 meeting.

Students attending Greenville County Schools have missed six days this school year. Two missed school days were made up on Friday, March 7, and Monday, March 10. The third day will be made up on Friday, June 6, as the last day of the school year.

The administration’s recommendation to forgive up to five days was based on the reasoning that additional makeup days at the end of the year or Saturdays would be disruptive to families, would likely not be well attended, and would not have the desired instructional value.
