Brandon ByrdJudith LinThe University of South Carolina will welcome two of Greenville County Schools’ top students for the University’s most valuable and prestigious scholarship programs.

Brandon Byrd, son of Regina Hanner-Byrd and Mark Byrd of Greenville, received the Carolina Scholars Award. He is a graduate of Wade Hampton High School. The Carolina Scholars Award is valued at $10,000 per year for four years.

Judith Lin, daughter of Kuo-Pei Cheng-Lin and Yu-Guang Lin of Greer, S.C, was awarded the Stamps Scholar award.  She is a graduate of Riverside High School.  Stamps Carolina Scholars receive all the benefits of the Carolina Scholars, plus $8,000 to be used for enrichment opportunities including undergraduate research, study abroad, service projects or trips or unpaid internships during their undergraduate tenure.

The USC Scholar Awards program attracts the best and the brightest students from the state, region and nation. More than 2,200 students applied for USC’s scholars awards, making it the largest and most competitive applicant pool in the university’s history.
