Violinist Tours with National Youth Orchestra
Sam Parrini, a senior at the Fine Arts Center and Wade Hampton High, has been invited to be a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) for the 2018 season. Sam is a violinist in the Strings Chamber Program with FAC instructor John Ravnan, and he is taught by Jennifer John from the SC Governor’s School for the Arts.
NYO-USA has established an outstanding reputation as a showcase for the best of the nation’s young orchestra players. This summer, NYO-USA returns to Asia under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas with piano soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. In addition to performing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2, Carnegie Hall has commissioned a new work by American composer Ted Hearne for NYO-USA’s tour and annual concert at Carnegie Hall. The 2018 NYO-USA program runs from June 30 through August 6, and begins with a three-week residency at Purchase College, SUNY, where orchestra members work with a faculty of principal players from many of America’s greatest orchestras.
