Serena Cox, a sixth grade science teacher at Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher Middle School, has been selected to attend the 2015 Honeywell Green Boot Camp in San Diego June 21-25. She will be among 55 teachers worldwide who will participate in this one-of-a-kind environmental science and sustainability education program.
Green Boot Camp is a professional development program designed for teachers who want to learn new and innovative techniques for integrating topics such as energy conservation, climate change and renewable resources into the classroom. During the five-day workshop, teachers will learn how to teach and inspire students to become more environmentally aware and will be equipped with tools and materials that will help them deliver the lessons in relevant, impactful ways. Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s corporate citizenship initiative, is paying for Ms. Cox’s tuition, room and board.
Ms. Cox has taught middle school science for six years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in middle level science from Converse College.
