GCS Students Shine at Music Ed Conference
The Mauldin Middle School Wind Ensemble, directed by Jim Kilgus and Julie Poston, was selected by blind audition to perform last weekend before hundreds of educators at the South Carolina Music Educators Association Conference in Charleston . Their performance included eight works by Larry Clark, Michael Sweeney, Dan Moore, Frank Ticheli, Robert Sheldon, and Chris Bernotas.
The Mauldin Middle School Wind Ensemble is comprised of 67 seventh and eighth grade students who meet before and after school to rehearse in addition to their regular band class. The Ensemble has earned numerous Superior ratings at the SC Band Directors Association Concert Festival and Festival Disney, a competitive music event for highly talented performers.
Also performing from Greenville County Schools was Woodmont High IB freshman Cedric Shell, who performed at the Piano Divisions Honors Recital. Cedric is active in the Woodmont High School Marching Band of Pride, Jazz Band, and plays cello in the Woodmont High School orchestra.
The South Carolina Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference is the largest in-service event in the state for instrument and voice teachers.
