Lake Forest Elementary, Sterling School/Charles Townes Center named finalists for Riley Award for SIC Excellence
Lake Forest Elementary and Sterling School/Charles Townes Center are among five schools in South Carolina whose School Improvement Councils (SICs) have been named statewide 2024 award finalists for their accomplishments in parent and civic engagement within their school communities.
The SC School Improvement Council’s annual Dick and Tunky Riley Award for School Improvement Council Excellence was created in 2002 to recognize the significant contributions made to public education by more than 11,000 local SIC members who volunteer in the state’s 1,100-plus K-12 public schools.
In alphabetical order, this year’s Riley Award finalists are:
- Harold C. Johnson Elementary SIC (York School District 1)
- Lake Forest Elementary SIC (Greenville County Schools)
- Lemira Elementary SIC (Sumter School District)
- Sterling School/Charles Townes Center SIC (Greenville County Schools)
- Stratford High SIC (Berkeley County School District)
“These five School Improvement Councils have done very meaningful work for the schools they serve, and we congratulate them,” said SC-SIC Board of Trustees Chair Stewart Cooner. “We are grateful for their support of the impact that parents, educators, and community members can make collectively for their schools and students.”
The winner of this year’s Riley Award will be selected from these finalists by an independent panel of reviewers and announced during an awards luncheon later this spring.
