Greer High Virtual Enterprise Team Wins 3rd State Title
The Greer High Virtual Enterprise class won first place in the SC State Business Plan Competition in Columbia. This is the 3rd year in a row Greer’s VE class has won the state championship. This qualified the team for the National Business Plan Competition which will be held in New York in April.
About the Competition:
After writing a 20+ page business plan and submitting it to New York to be judged the class created a presentation for industry professionals. The written portion accounted for 50% of their score and the oral presentation accounted for 50% in the state competition. Students are now preparing for the National Business Plan Competition, which will be a part of the Youth Business Summit being held April 15-19 in New York. The student motto is, "We don't want to just go to New York, we want to win Nationals!"
The virtual business this year is Hydration to Others, or H to O, which sells reusable water bottles, with a percentage of the profits going towards building water purification systems in developing countries that don't have access to clean water.
What is Virtual Enterprise?
Virtual Enterprise replicates all the functions of real businesses in both structure and practice. Under the guidance of a teacher/facilitator, students create and manage their virtual businesses from product development, production and distribution to marketing, sales, human resources, accounting/finance and web design. In essence, Virtual Enterprise is a global organization that allows high school students from across the world the chance to compete in a series of business competitions.
