In this course, students will learn how to read blueprints, operate a drill press, lathe and a milling machine, as well as learn grinding operations. Within the machine tool field there are also areas which use computer technology for design, production and inspection. Students must possess good math skills, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, good eyesight, the ability to concentrate on detailed work, patience to be successful and follow instructions.
With nearly 130 machine shops in the upstate of SC in addition to major corporations such as Michelin, BMW, ZF Transmissions, etc. looking for skilled Machine Tool employees, the opportunities in this field are plentiful. In addition, the demand for CNC milling and turning specialists is extremely high in fields such as medical, robotics, aerospace, automotive, gas turbine, oil refineries, power plants, etc.
