This program focuses on hands-on opportunities exploring child growth and development, nutrition, health and safety, behavior guidance programs and management of the child’s environment and activities. Students visit day care centers and colleges that offer Early Childhood majors. A working portfolio is the final product for the course which includes samples of work with children.
Students may acquire First Aid/CPR certification for infants, children and adults. They also co-op at a local childcare facility or public preschool. In addition, students are prepared to complete hours for the Child Development Association Credential (CDA) Students can also earn the Pre-PAC certification through AAFCS and are involved in FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) where they can earn various awards.
Potential careers include Teacher, Teacher Assistant, Childcare Worker, Childcare Owner/Operator, Early Childhood Specialist, etc. (2 Year Program - Grades 10-12)
