Our top priority right now is the well-being of our students. We recognize that the start of this school year has been quite a transition for our students and their teachers. We hope the following practices will support students during their eLearning days:
We suggest that on eLearning days, students follow their in-person class schedule to provide consistency and some level of normalcy. As mentioned, students should be spending only about 25-35 minutes (max: 45 minutes) per class period. If they stick to their daily class schedule, this should allow for some time between classes to stretch, get a snack, and take an "eye break" from their screens; or they may begin working on materials for their next class period.
During each class period, students should log in to their teacher’s Google Classroom, check for announcements, review all posted materials, complete and submit assignments, and take any posted assessments. Students are also encouraged to reach out to their teachers during their Office Hours, specifically if they have questions or need clarification or support on assignments.
The eLearning schedule on Fridays during Attendance Plans 1 and 2 is a little different than during the week. Class times are much shorter (only 17 minutes), and are meant to be times to contact your teachers for help on assignments and to make sure you have everything turned in. This also gives teachers time for meetings and to plan for the coming week.
Time | Class |
---|---|
8:30 - 8:47 | 1st Period |
8:50 - 9:07 | 2nd Period |
9:10 - 9:27 | 3rd Period |
9:30 - 9:47 | 4th Period |
9:50 - 10:07 | 5th Period |
10:10 - 10:27 | 6th Period |
10:30 - 10:47 | 7th Period |
10:50 - 12:00 | Parent Conferences/IEP Meetings (by appointment) |

All district schools have Wi-fi access in the parking lot near the building all day between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. There is no need to go to a specific school – just go to the GCS building that is most convenient to you. Students needing internet can also connect between 10:00 AM – Noon at any of the meal delivery sites listed on the district website. Though internet access is needed to download or turn in electronic assignments, once those are downloaded, students can work on the material offline. All students grade 3 through 12 should participate in eLearning if at all possible.
Remember, while away from Wi-fi, do not close any tabs until you are finished and reconnected to the internet and progress has been saved. Otherwise, you could lose all of your work!

Grading will follow the normal weights and percentages for both in-person and eLearning.
Students should access lessons and assignments through Google Classroom using their student account.
Teachers, counselors, and administrators will be monitoring student engagement and will make contact with any student who has not been online or in touch with their teacher.
Students should physically attend school on the day(s) indicated by their color group and based on the most current Attendance Plan set forth by the school district. Students who do not attend school on their assigned day are not allowed to attend a different day of the week. Students who do not attend school on their in-person day will be counted absent, and the parent will be notified of the absence via the School Messenger system. The parent should provide a note/excuse explaining the absence.
Students who are eLearning will be marked present when they log in to Google Classroom and work on the day’s assignments.
Students who go more than two days without logging into Google Classroom or contacting their teacher via phone, email, or virtual meeting, the student will be referred to administration, and an attempt to contact the parent/student to discuss and document the attempts to resolve the issue. If communication is unsuccessful or efforts to engage the student fail, the student will be referred to district-level personnel.
