December  2017J. Cooke

Dear Lake Forest Family,

Happy holidays and best wishes for a joyous 2018! Our winter break will be December 21 – January 2. School will be back in session on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Thank you for all you have done to make 2017 a successful year. I want to give a special thanks to our wonderful PTA Board and SIC. Our school is truly blessed with so many families who are willing to give their time and talent to our school family.

We would like to continue offering a healthier balance of food at our class parties (Holiday and Valentine’s Day). Please contact the room mom for your child’s class if you would like to assist with this. For our upcoming holiday parties on December 19th, we will use the following schedule – K4, K5, 1st—11:30 and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th—1:00.  If you will be attending the party or if your child will have an early dismissal after the party is over, be prepared to show your photo ID. Please remember that December 20 is a half day for students, so dismissal will begin at 12:00. An alternate lunch schedule will be used on this day as well.

During the month of December, all second and fifth grade students will take the Measures of Academic Progress Test (MAP). Students will be tested in reading and math. Your child’s teacher will communicate the testing dates to you. For more information and resources for parents, visit www.nwea.org.

We will hold registration for kindergarten and new first grade students for the 2018-2019 school year the week of December 4-7, 2017. Parents can download the registration forms and information from our website or you may pick up a copy at our school.  Registration forms should be hand delivered to the school during office hours, 7:15 am to 4:00 pm. Parents must provide the completed registration form, a properly completed immunization record, birth certificate and two proofs of residence (utility bills, lease or mortgage statements are acceptable). Early registration ensures that we have enough teachers in place to accommodate our students for fall 2018. Please help us spread the word in the community.

I hope you have a safe, enjoyable time with family and friends over the winter break! Merry Christmas to all!

With warm regards,

Julie Cooke
